Wilma Jean Sloan

October 29, 1929 — May 11, 2018

Wilma Jean (Willson) Sloan, age 88, of Bryan, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018.She was born on October 29, 1929, to Clarence and Alice Willson at her family farm in Ai, Ohio.On August 6, 1950, Wilma married Virgil Otis Sloan of Stryker, Ohio. Together they raised 3children: Shirley Jean (Joseph) Wiley (deceased), Sacramento; James Allen Sloan,Sacramento; and John Paul (Susan Wallace) Sloan, Sacramento. She was grandmother toJames Allen (Jay) Sloan, Sacramento and Matthew Tyler Sloan, Concord, CA. She also wasgreat grandmother to Jayden Sloan. After her marriage, Wilma assisted Virgil with running two businesses simultaneously for several years during the 1950’s: “Sunset View Camp” near Chapleau, Ontario, and the “Stryker Meat Locker” in Stryker, Ohio. In later years she continued to be an inspirational wife, mother and homemaker. Not a day passed without her family knowing how much they were loved. She was well known for her love of flowers and was a member of the Williams County FlowerClub for many years. In addition, her passions included music, sewing, travel, cooking andreading the Bible. She could often be heard, by many of the residents at Fountain Park, herassisted living facility, playing the piano and singing, most always drawing a crowd.Wilma was blind due to glaucoma for the last 20 years of her life, but lived independently forseveral years after Virgil’s passing in 2009. In spite of this handicap, she was amazinglyself-sufficient and exceptionally positive, which drew her a reputation as being a role-model forthe blind and an inspiration to all who knew her.Her incredibly positive and uplifting outlook will be greatly missed by all who had the fortune toshare a moment with her. She saw the positive side to everyone and everything, which, iswithout question, her greatest legacy. She is survived by 2 of her 7 sisters: Ila Jo Luke (Ohio) and Beverly Puppos of (Oregon), andpreceded in death by husband, Virgil, age 88 (passed in October of 2009) and daughter Shirley, age 39 (passed in January of 1991).The family would like to offer a special thanks to all our family and friends, including Melbert“Rudy” Tod-Rudolph, Angie Lal, the staff and health care professionals at Fountain ParkAssisted Living, Hospice of Bryan and Bryan Community Hospital.Memorial services will be scheduled at a future date.
