Phyllis Irene (Wonderly) Burd, age 98, of Edon, Ohio, passed away at 10:08 P.M. on Saturday, May 5, 2018, in her home with her family at her side. She attended grades 1-8 at the Wonderly School and was a 1937 graduate of Mark Center High School, where she excelled in penmanship. Phyllis received Christ as her Savior at Mount Union Christian Church under the leadership of Reverend Howard and Ruth Dunlap and was baptized at Nettle Lake. Throughout the years she was employed by Ohio Art, Kustom Fit and at Montpelier Hospital. After her children were grown, she enjoyed music at the Gospel Barn, art, playing the piano, reading and mushroom hunting. She also enjoyed traveling with grandchildren, sisters, and friends to places in the continental United States, Hawaii, Europe, Israel and Petra. She was a good hostess and cook, especially her fried chicken, and her apple and lemon pies, but her favorite to eat was custard pie. He favorite pet was her cat, Mimi.Phyllis Irene Burd was born on December 13, 1919, in Mark Township of Defiance County, Ohio, the daughter of Fred J. and Florence (Carver) Wonderly. She married her husband of fifty years, Chalmer Francis Burd, on February 19, 1937, in Auburn, Indiana, with John and Berniece (Rohrs) Sholl as attendants. Chalmer preceded her in death on August 1, 1987.Survivors include four daughters, Donna Jean Burd, Deanna Carol (Wendel) Long, Janet Kay Schaffter, and Lois Joan (Larry) Dewire and, all of Edon, Ohio; eight grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Maxine Lenore (Walter) Potter, of Huntertown, Indiana. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Margaret Louise and Nancy Marlene; a grandson-in-law, Larry Lohse, an older brother, Claron (Fern) Wonderly; and a younger sister, Beulah Lucille (Deloy) Osmun.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 6:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon, Ohio. Services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. in the Edon Church of Christ with Pastor David LaDuke officiating. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. in the church. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service in the church basement, followed by interment in Lost Creek Cemetery, near Hicksville, Ohio. The family requests that any memorial contributions be directed to Mount Union Christian Union Church or to the Edon Church of Christ. The family also expresses a sincere thank you to Visiting Angels and Great Lakes Hospice for their care and compassion.
