L. Joan “Joby” Dewire, age 75, passed away from a rare form of stomach cancer at 2:12 A.M. on Sunday, January 26, 2020, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center near Defiance, Ohio, surrounded by her family. Joby was a 1962 graduate of Edon High School and graduated from Elkhart Dental Hygiene School. She began working at Hause Valve and Machines in Montpelier, Ohio, in 1964, retiring as a Managing Partner. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon and enjoyed gardening, growing all kinds of flowers, reading and traveling. She especially loved her family and friends, going to her grandkids’ events and trying her luck at the casino. L. Joan “Joby” Dewire was born on September 21, 1944, in Wolfe Lake, Indiana, the daughter of Chalmer and Phyllis (Wonderly) Burd. She married Larry W. Dewire on February 9, 1963, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon, and he survives. Surviving in addition to her husband are one son, Tom (Carrie) Dewire, of Toledo, Ohio; one daughter, Laura (Jeff) Rode, of Bryan, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Nolan, Matt, Colin, Nathan, Abby and Allie Dewire and Courtney and Jordan Rode; sisters, Donna Burd, Carol (Wendel) Long, and Janet Schaffter, all of Edon; and sisters-in-law, Sue Dewire, of Montpelier, Mary Damman, of Hillsdale, Michigan, and Cheryl Dewire, of Hamilton, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Margaret and Nancy Burd. Visitation will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon, from 2:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2020, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Edon, with Reverend Mary Beth Smith-Gunn officiating. Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery. Memorials are requested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Building Fund, Edon Parks Department, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
