John C. Close, age 82, of Edgerton, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Parkview Bryan Hospital. John was a lifelong farmer. He was passionate about farming and worked to leave an enduring legacy to the 5th generation of farmers in his family. He served in the National Guard. John enjoyed his time with friends at Rita’s round table for breakfast and coffee. What he cherished most was spending time with his family.
John C. Close was born on December 21, 1942, in Edgerton, Ohio, the son of Oscar W. and Iva (Bruot) Close. John attended Edgerton High School. He married Susan K. Dietsch on June 5, 1965 and she survives.
John is also survived by his daughters, Melisa (Scott) Swan, Melinda (Gregg) Thiel and Michele (Jim) Sack, all of Edgerton; 5 grandchildren, Kaelyn (Hunter) Flower, Landon (Allie) Thiel, Logan (Mady) Sack, Connor Thiel and Jared Swan; 2 great grandchildren, River Flower and Whitt Thiel and a sister, Shirley Hancock, of Santa Barbara, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Donna Hancock, Betty Taylor and Norma Stoll.
Private visitation and funeral services will be held at Krill Funeral Home, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Edgerton Area Foundation Scholarship Fund.
