Jackie Lee Porter, age 84, of Butler, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at the Laurels of DeKalb. He was a heavy equipment operator for DeKalb County Highway Department for 34 years before retiring. He had also worked at Essex Wire for 8 years in the Experimental Engineering Department. Jackie was a veteran of the Indiana Army National Guard. He enjoyed trains, fishing, working in his garden and canning vegetables.
Jackie Lee Porter was born on November 11, 1939 in Garrett, Indiana, the son of Alfred L. and Alice J. (Refner) Porter, Sr. Jackie married Beverly Anne Koehl on February 7, 1970, and she survives.
Jackie is also survived by his daughters; Kristine Smith, of Garrett, Karla Procise, of Fort Wayne, Cheryl Porter, of Auburn and Patricia (Michael) Roehm, of Garrett; sons, Jeffrey (Jody) Porter, of Angola and John Porter, of Kendallville; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Alfred (Roxie) Porter, Jr., of Garrett and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Alfred (Dorothy) Porter, Sr. and mother and stepfather, Alice (Robert) Brown.
Visitation will be held at Krill Funeral Home, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton, Ohio on Saturday, September 7, 2024 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm with a celebration of Jackie’s life beginning at 1:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Gleason Cemetery at a later date.
