David “Bruce” Kannel, age 74, of Edon, Ohio, passed away at 1:08 P.M. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in his home after an extended illness, surrounded by his family. Mr. Kannel was a 1962 graduate of Edon High School and a graduate of Andrew Barber College in Toledo, Ohio. He was a barber in Edon for many years and also drove school bus for Edon Northwest Schools. After closing the shop he went on to work for Spangler Candy Company, retiring with thirty-six years of service. In his spare time he operated K & K Landscaping in Edon, tending to yards and landscaping in the area. He was a member of Edon United Methodist Church, Edon Lions Club and Teamsters Local #20. Bruce was an avid supporter of Edon, where he was the town Santa for more than forty years, and was a die-hard fan of the Michigan Wolverine football team. His favorite pastime was sitting on the porch and watching the world pass by.The son of Dean Benjamin and Eileen (Kaiser) Kannel, Bruce was born on February 15, 1944, in Toledo, Ohio. He married Eileen L. “Gus” Eager on February 1, 1964, in Stryker, Ohio, and she survives.Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, David Bruce “Dave” Kannel, of Palm Springs, California, and Doug (Becky) Kannel, of Hamilton, Indiana; one daughter, Lynne (Lance) Nofziger, of Edon; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Susan (Dick) Oliver, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Gary (Dale) Sherrow and Donald Sherrow, both in New Jersey; a half brother, Delbert Sherrow, of Worthington, Indiana; a half sister, June Carol (Bob) Barr, of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and numerous nephews and nieces.Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018, from 3:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 204 West Indiana Street, Edon. Services will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. in the Edon United Methodist Church with Reverend Doug Widdowson officiating.
