Clair P. Goebel, age 83, of Edgerton, Ohio, passed away at 3:05 P.M. on Monday, February 12, 2018, with his family at his side. Mr. Goebel was a 1952 graduate of Edgerton High School, was a lifelong farmer and had retired from GM in Defiance, Ohio, in 1980 with twenty-six years of service. He was a dairy farmer and in 1990 began raising Angus cattle until a decline in his health. He loved attending farm auctions, collecting toy tractors, pedal tractors, and old tractors, especially Olivers. He also enjoyed Cushman scooters and later his Kubota, which allowed him to enjoy watching his sons farm, as well as visiting the neighbors. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Edgerton and Knights of Columbus Council #1494. Clair P. Goebel was born on August 8, 1934, near Edgerton, the son of Norbert and Dora (Stark) Goebel. He married his wife of sixty-four years, Laverne VanPelt, on February 6, 1954, in Deshler, Ohio, and she survives.Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons, Douglas (Becky) Goebel, James (Angela) Goebel, Andrew (Mary) Goebel and Anthony (Michelle) Goebel, all of Edgerton, and David (Marie) Goebel, of Nettle Lake, Ohio; three daughters, Denise (Lee) Impton, of Butler, Indiana, Teri (Bud) VanSickle, of Liberty Center, Ohio, and Julie (Jim) Nichols, of Hamilton, Indiana; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Hilda Green , of Glendale, Arizona, Laura Kline, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Imelda (Charles) Snider, of Columbia City, Indiana. He was preceded in death by an infant son Timothy; five brothers, Nial, Maurice, Cletus, Basil and Edward; and three sisters, Alice Denny, Muriel Hug and Rita Jackson.Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 114 East Hull Street, Edgerton, followed by recitation of the rosary at 8:00 P.M. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary Catholic Church , Edgerton, with Reverend Daniel Borgelt officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.Memorials are requested to St. Mary Catholic Church or School or Community Health Professionals Hospice and Home Health Care.
