Gladys M. Knight, age 98, of Hillside Country Living, Bryan, Ohio, and a former long-time resident of Edon, Ohio, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan, Ohio, where she had been a patient for one week. Mrs. Knight was valedictorian of the 1927 graduating class of Metz High School, Metz, Indiana. She lived for 63 years on her family farm in Northwest Township, Ohio, and managed the farm after the death of her husband in 1961. A homemaker, she also worked outside the home at Beam Stream, Montpelier, Ohio. Mrs. Knight was a member of Edon United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday School Superintendent for five years. She was a70-year member of Northwest Grange #417. Her other memberships included Williams County Pomona Grange, National Grange, Maple Grove #11 Farm Bureau Council, Northwest Township Spic and Span 4-H Club, of which she was a leader for ten years, Williams County 4-H Advisory Board for five years, President of Northwest School Mothers Club (PTA), Edon Homemakers Club, and Edon Senior Citizens Club. She was also an avid gardener and a skilled artist, who enjoyed painting landscapes in oil, watercolor, and pastel. Gladys M. Knight was born on April 26, 1909, in Steuben County, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Anspaugh) Tingler. She married Myron W. Knight on December 23, 1931, in Hamilton, Indiana, and he preceded her in death in 1961. Mrs. Knight is survived by her children, Charles M. (Elaine) Knight, of Hamilton, Indiana, Aldis M. Knight (Dianne Renner), of Lafayette, Indiana, and Nancy A. (Van) Jones, of Wilmington, Ohio, seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Knight was preceded in death by one brother, Virgil Tingler, and one grandson, Van W. Jones III. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008, in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, with Pastor Eric Dailey officiating. Interment will follow in Edon Cemetery, Edon, Ohio. Visitation will be held in the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, immediately prior to the service. Memorials in the name of Gladys M. Knight may be given to Edon United Methodist Church.
