David Joseph Betts

David Joseph Betts, 20 years, of Bryan, Ohio, died on Friday, March 2, 2007, as a result of a motor vehicle accident in Atlanta, Georgia. A 2005 graduate of Bryan High School, David was a member of the National Honor Society. He was very active in his school years, involved in the Symphonic Band, where he was first chair trombone for four years, Orchestra and the Jazz Band. He competed in high school athletics, playing baseball, basketball and running cross country all four years. He served as class treasurer of his high school class for three years. David was currently a sophomore at Bluffton University and a member of the Bluffton University Beavers baseball team, the Bluffton University Jazz Band, Science Club and played intramural basketball. David was an umpire for the Bryan baseball leagues during his summer breaks and served as Umpire in Chief for the Bryan Minor Leagues. He was a member of Zion Mennonite Church, Archbold, Ohio. David Joseph Betts was born on December 10, 1986, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Feroen John and Joy (Ramseyer) Betts. Surviving David are his parents, Feroen John and Joy Betts, of Bryan; two sisters, Rachel Elizabeth Swackhamer, of Maumee, Ohio, and Sarah Ann Betts, of Bryan; one brother, Jacob James Betts, of Bryan; his grandparents, Feroen J. and Margaret Betts, of Bryan, Robert and Alice Ruth Ramseyer, of Bluffton, Ohio; four aunts, Teresa (Charles) Betts-Cobau, of Harbor Springs, Michigan, Pam (Thomas) Bryan, of Vermilion, Ohio, Sue (Bob) Konicek, of Bloomington, Indiana, and Jeanne (Tom) Stenson, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; and one uncle, Mark (Norma) Ramseyer, of Lexington, Massachussetts. Funeral services for David Joseph Betts will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2007, in the Bryan High School Gymnasium, 150 S. Portland Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor Ron Guengerich and Pastor Anne Stuckey officiating. Private interment will be made in Fountain Grove Cemetery. Visitation for David Joseph Betts will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday, March 8, 2007, from 2-8 p.m. in the funeral home and on Friday, March 9, 2007, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the Bryan High School gymnasium, prior to the funeral service. Memorials in the name of David J. Betts may be given to the David J. Betts Memorial Fund.
