Owen R. “Joe” Word, age 82, of rural Montpelier, Ohio, died at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, 2005, at his residence after a brief illness. Mr. Word operated Word Brothers Dinner Time Meats for thirty years and was a rural postal carrier in Camden, Michigan, for twenty-two years. He was also a farmer and an area resident for the past twenty-one years. Owen R. “Joe” Word was born September 20, 1922, in Angola, Indiana, the son of John and Gladys Mae (Royer) Word. He married Ruby Jean Myers on December 9, 1944, in West Unity, Ohio, and she preceded him on August 2, 2004. Mr. Word is survived by three daughters, Sue (Ron) Gilbert, of Edon, Ohio, Teri (James) Jarrett, of Auburn, Indiana, Kelly (Phil) Vreeland, of Montgomery, Michigan, and one son, Dan (Diana) Word, of Lake Butler, Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one brother, Carlton “Tubby” (Lila) Word, of Angola, Indiana. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Thelma Word, of Camden, Michigan, and Ruby Word, of Angola, Indiana. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, LeOtis, Kenneth and DeWayne Word. Services for Owen R. “Joe” Word will be Friday, May 20, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, with Al Word officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier, Ohio. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon, Ohio, from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 19. Memorial contributions in the name of Owen R. “Joe”Word may be given to the American Cancer Society.
