View Video Tribute Jack Holthues, age 77, of Edon, Ohio, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2008, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Center in Montpelier. Mr. Holthues was a farmer and was employed by the Edon Farmers Co-op for twenty-six years as manager of the Blakeslee branch and as assistant manager at the Edon location. He then was employed by Edon Northwest Schools as a custodian and bus driver for nineteen years. Currently he was employed by the Montpelier Auto Auction. Mr. Holthues was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Edon American Legion Post #662, Edon Masonic Lodge #464, Bryan Eagles Lodge Aerie #2233 and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon. He was a firefighter with the Edon-Florence Township Fire Department, serving as Assistant Chief retiring with twenty-five years of service.. He also served with Edon EMS for several years, of which he was the first District Chief. He served seven years on the Edon Northwest School Board, was an honorary member of the Edon FFA and was a recipient of the Jerry Luce Memorial Award. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Jack Holthues was born on March 21, 1930, in Park County, Wyoming, the son of Lambert and Faye (Till) Holthues. He married Ruthanna M. Hildebrandt on March 17, 1956, in Stryker, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Holthues is survived by two sons, Dennis Holthues, of Pioneer, Ohio, and Douglas (Ann) Holthues, of Wauseon, Ohio, one daughter, Debra (Craig) Billings, of Dryden, Michigan, six grandchildren, Haley and Kristen Miller and Alexis, Ella, Jacob and Jordan Holthues, and one great-grandchild, Chase Marcus Lassen, Jr. He is also survived by two brothers, Carl Holthues, of Edon, Ohio, and Neil Holthues, of Montpelier, Ohio, two sisters, Wilma Entenman, of Edon, Ohio, and his twin, Jean Orzechowski. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Violet Dawn Fuller and two sisters in law, Jean & Barbara Holthues. Services for Jack Holthues will be on Saturday, January 5, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon, Ohio, with Reverend Clayton J. Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Edon Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, January 4. Memorials in the name of Jack Holthues may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon or to the Edon Northwest Schools Athletic Department.
