Cleo M. Hug

Cleo M. Hug, age 87, of Edon, Ohio, died at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers-Bryan, where he was a patient. Mr. Hug was a farmer and a self-employed truck driver. He hauled milk for Pet Milk Co. for 21 years. He also worked for the Ohio Department of Transportation for 13 years, retiring in 1983. A World War II veteran, Mr. Hug served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1945 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Hug was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, was a charter member of K of C Council #3883, and belonged to the Sam’s Place Coffee Club in Blakeslee. Cleo M. Hug was born March 14, 1918, in Florence Township, Williams County, Ohio, the son of Albert and Frances (Thiel) Hug. He married Barbara Ricketts on December 29, 1945, in Blakeslee, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Hug is survived by four sons, Michael (Lynda) Hug, Fremont, Indiana, Larry Hug and Marvin (Pam) Hug, both of Edon, and John (Linda) Hug, Edgerton, Ohio, three daughters, Lois (Donald III) Mullins, Middlebury, Indiana, Janie (Tom) Sheline, Millersburg, Indiana, and Teresa “Sis” Hug, Bryan, Ohio, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Catherine “Putz” Zellinger, Thomasville, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Herman, his twin, Leo, and Junior, and two sisters, Gertrude, who died in infancy, and Sister Eveline Hug. Services for Cleo M. Hug will be Monday, May 2, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, Ohio, with Fr. Frederick Duschl officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Blakeslee, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #662. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2005, with a scripture service at 8:00 p.m. Memorials in the name of Cleo M. Hug may be given to St. Joseph Catholic School in Blakeslee.
