View Video Tribute Van A. Muehlfeld, age 58, of Blakeslee, Ohio, died at 3:39 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, in his home. Mr. Muehlfeld was a graduate of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s High School in Orchard Lake, Michigan, and served in the United States Air Force from 1970-1976, including a tour in Vietnam. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, Ohio, and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Blakeslee. He was currently a truck driver for Bryan Truck Lines and had previously worked for Thiel Construction and operated Hoggie's Bar and Grill in Edon from 1995-2001. Van A. Muehlfeld was born on February 23, 1950, in DeKalb County, Indiana, the son of Paul R. and Virginia R. (Ruhlman) Muehlfeld. He married Catherine P. Close on June 3, 1995, in Blakeslee and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Muehlfeld is survived by one daughter, Heidi C. (Chris) Bauer, of Montpelier, Ohio, one son, Brian V. Muehlfeld, of Montpelier, Ohio, a stepson, Randall Trausch, of Defiance, Ohio, and four grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Tim Muehlfeld, of Flagstaff, Arizona, Jeff Muehlfeld, of Miami, Florida, and Skip (Rachel) Muehlfeld, of Edgerton, Ohio, one sister, Cindy (Terry) Eckhardt, of Phoenix, Arizona, and his grandmother, Dorothy Ruhlman, of Edgerton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joseph, in 1992. Services for Van A. Muehlfeld will be on Monday, March 31, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, Ohio, with Father Stephen Schroeder and Father Gary Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Blakeslee, Ohio, with grave side military rites conducted by Edon American Legion Post #662. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, with a scripture service to be conducted Sunday at 8:30 p.m. Memorials in the name of Van A. Muehlfeld may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
