View Video Tribute Alvin L. Kaufman, age 75, of rural Montpelier (Nettle Lake), Ohio, and formerly of Defiance, Ohio, died at 11:50 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio, where he was a patient. Mr. Kaufman graduated from Bluffton High School and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was employed by ABC Distributing Company in Defiance, Ohio, as a Warehouse Manager, retiring with 38 years of service. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Montpelier, Ohio, a Life Member of Knights of Columbus Council #1039 in Defiance, Ohio, a Life Member of Defiance County Fish and Game Association, a member of Moose Lodge #312 and Moose Legion #30, both of Montpelier, Ohio, and a member of the Pioneer American Legion Post #307. Alvin L. Kaufman was born on April 18, 1932, in Ottawa, Ohio, the son of Alfred and Cora (Frank) Kaufman, Sr. He married Loreen P. Schimmoeller on June 18, 1952, in Glandorf, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Kaufman is survived by his children, Barbara Beebe, of Defiance, Ohio, Betty (Philip) Kelly, of Lima, Ohio, Al Kaufman, of Defiance, Karen Kaufman, in California, Sandy Mobley, of Bryan, Ohio, Fred (Ericka) Kaufman, Hicksville, Ohio, and Jeannie (Kevin) Bourk, of Lima, Ohio, thirteen grandchildren, Renae (Doug) Brown, Adam Beebe, Amber Kaufman, Cora Kaufman, Marty Kaufman, Misty Mobley, Aubrey Kaufman, Brandy Kaufman, Brady Bourk, Brien Bourk, Nathan Fisher, Dylan Fisher, and William Bourk, and five great-grandchildren, William C. Brown, Wyatt Justis, Ali Justis, Kurt Scranton, and Zoa Embry. He is also survived by three brothers, Ambrose (Terese) Kaufman, Gerald (Joan) Kaufman, and Alfred (Fran) Kaufman, one sister, Mary (James) Reaman, and two sisters-in-law, Rita Kaufman and Ruth Kaufman. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Daniel, Robert and Cletus Kaufman. Services for Alvin L. Kaufman will be on Friday, March 28, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan, Ohio, with Father Charles Ritter and Father Frederick Duschl officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens near Defiance, Ohio, followed by grave side military rites. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, from 2-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, with a scripture service conducted at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Memorials in the name of Alvin L. Kaufman are requested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
