Robert Thomas Peverly, age 79, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, in Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan, Ohio, where he was a patient. A 1955 graduate of Adrian College, Adrian, Michigan, Mr. Peverly received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. In 1956 he began teaching mathematics in the Edgerton Schools, Edgerton, Ohio, where he taught for thirty-two years. During this time, he coached cross country, junior high basketball, high school boys basketball, high school girls basketball and seventeen years of baseball, participating in the state baseball tournament in 1979 and placing as runner-up. He was also long-time director of the summer recreation association in Edgerton. In 1972, he started the Port-A-Pit BBQ business. Mr. Peverly was a member of the Lick Creek Church of the Brethren in Bryan, Ohio, a past member of the Edgerton Masonic Lodge, and Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Edgerton Lions Club, where he served as Charter President when it was reorganized in 1985. He held the position of President three times, as well as Membership Chairman and Tail Twister. In 1987 he received the Lion of the Year Award and in 1998 received the honored Melvin Jones Award. In 2000, Robert and his wife, Iva, were recognized as the Edgerton Citizens of the Year. Robert Thomas Peverly was born on January 31, 1929, in East Greenbush, New York, the son of Thomas Lidell and Ethel Beatrice (Smith) Peverly. He married Iva Ann Ruder on August 21, 1954, in North Adams, Michigan, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Peverly is survived by four sons, Dean Thomas (Susan) Peverly, of Hicksville, Ohio, David Ray (Ounleyn) Peverly, of Auburn, Indiana, Daniel Lydell (Leona) Peverly, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Dale Robert (Annette) Peverly, of Findlay, Ohio, six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two bonus grandchildren and six bonus great-grandchildren, one brother, Richard Lidell Peverly, of Poughkeepsie, New York, and one sister-in-law, Barbara Peverly, of Rensselaer, New York. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald William Peverly, and one sister-in-law, Mary Peverly. Services for Robert Thomas Peverly will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. in the Edgerton Elementary School gymnasium, Edgerton, Ohio, with Dr. Bryon Hawbecker officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton, Ohio. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 7 2008, with a Lions Club memorial service to be conducted at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Edgerton Lions Club.
