Wray B. Dunson, age 96, of Edgerton, Ohio, died on Friday, January 11, 2008, at Community Memorial Hospital in Hicksville, Ohio, where he was a patient. A 1929 graduate of Mark Center High School, he received a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree from Bowling Green State University. An educator for 41 years, Mr. Dunson’s career started in a one-room school in Mark Township. He went on to teach at Edgerton for six years before moving to West Unity, where he was superintendent for thirteen years. In 1956 he and his wife moved to Oregon, Ohio. He taught at Clay Junior High School and later became principal of Wynn Elementary School in Oregon. In 1969 they retired to Hicksville, Ohio, and Mr. Dunson spent four enjoyable years teaaching sixth grade at Riverdale Elementary School in St. Joe Indiana. Mr. Dunson was a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, the Edgerton United Methodist Church and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over sixty years. Wray B. Dunson was born on May 22, 1911, in Mark Township in Defiance County, Ohio, the son of Rush and Lucy Belle (Wray) Dunson. He married Sarahetta Banks on December 29, 1934, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Dunson is survived by two daughters, Karen Pettit and Janet Dunson, both of Edgerton, Ohio, and six grandchildren, Robbin (Kelly) Pettit, of Edgerton, Ohio, Sean Pettit, of Bryan, Ohio, Gidget Pettit, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Julia (Richard) Thurston, of Jacksonville, Florida, Stephany Suydam, of Montpelier, Ohio, and Melinda (Dan) Sadoski, of Woodville, Ohio, ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Marlin Pettit, six sisters, and one brother. Services for Wray B. Dunson will be on Monday, January 14, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, with Pastor Tim Gleason officiating. Interment will follow in Six Corners Cemetery in Hicksville, Ohio. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, January 13. Memorials in the name of Wray B. Dunson may be given to the Edgerton Free Store or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
