Walter D. Bennett, age 71, of rural Montpelier, Ohio, died at 8:41 a.m. on Wednesday, December 8, 2004, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Montpelier, Ohio. Mr. Bennett was a lifelong farmer and was also employed by Simpson Industries in Edon for thirty-eight years, where he was the union shop steward for many years. He was an avid bowler, a member of the Edon United Methodist Church, the Edon Farmer's Co-op and the Farm Bureau. Walter D. Bennett was born September 24, 1933, near Edon, Ohio, the son of Avery and Hazel (Kline) Bennett. He married Janet L. Schoonover on September 8, 1955, in Waterloo, Indiana, and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mark Bennett, of San Francisco, California, and Michael (Mary) Bennett, of Merritt Island, Florida. He is also survived by one granddaughter, Molly Christine Bennett, one brother, Roger (Mary Jo) Bennett of Edon, and one sister, Jean (Gary) Heller, of Whitehouse, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services for Walter D. Bennett will be Monday, December 13, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, with Reverend Robert Damschroder officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier, Ohio. Visitation for Mr. Bennett will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 12.
