View Video Tribute Billie A. Mearse, age 78, of Hamilton, Indiana, died at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola, Indiana, where he was a resident. Mr. Mearse was employed by the New York Central Railroad, farmed and retired as a truck driver with Edon Machine. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Billie A. Mearse was born on August 19, 1929, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, the son of John and Alda (George) Mearse. He married Helen I. Thompson on July 7, 1951, in Woodburn, Indiana, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Mearse is survived by three sons, Orin “Odie” (DeAnn) Mearse, of Edon, Ohio, Paul Mearse, of Angola, Indiana, and Gene Mearse, of Hamilton, Indiana, a daughter-in-law, Patty Thompson, of Evansville, Indiana, seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Walter Mearse, in North Carolina, and Rubin Mearse, in Fayetteville, Tennessee, and two sisters, Maude May Taylor and Carrie Perry, both of Fayetteville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Jay Roger Thompson, two sisters, Lucy Colbart and Annie Beth Mearse, and one brother, John Mearse. Services for Billie A. Mearse will be on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, with Pastor Sam Weimer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Blakeslee, Ohio. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon, Ohio, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, 2008. Memorials in the name of Billie A. Mearse may be directed to the family to help defray medical expenses or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
