View Video Tribute Mary L. Rachel, 84 years, of Sherwood, Ohio, died at 11:05 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2005 at her residence after a short illness. Mrs. Rachel was a cook at the former Yates Restaurant in Bryan and also worked in the Housekeeping Department of Harborside Healthcare of Northwest Ohio, in Bryan, Ohio. She was a member of the True Word Tabernacle in Bluffton, Ohio. Mary Rachel was born on December 27, 1920, in Bigvain, Virginia, the daughter of George W. and Hannah Ann (Short) Baker. She married Taze W. Rachel on May 8, 1938 in Tazwell, Virginia, and he preceded her in death on October 9, 1978. Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Sproles of Sherwood, Ohio and Ruth (Carl) Lyons of Mansfield, Ohio; one son, Roy (Patsy) Rachel of Smithville, Tennessee, two son-in-law, Roy E. Russell of Bryan, Ohio and Donald W. Sproles of Sherwood, Ohio; 31 grandchildren, 55 great- grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Hattie (Edward) Daugherty of Mansfield, Ohio and one brother, Perry (Geneva) Baker of Bethel, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Taze W., one son, Alfred Rachel on April 23, 1988 and one daughter, Freeda Russell on December 2, 2004, one sister, Molly Dye and seven brothers, Willaim Lee Baker, James Edgar Baker, John Martin Baker, Monroe Baker, Robert Baker and Troy Ball. Funeral services for Mary Rachel will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2005 in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio with Pastor Ray Erickson, officiating. Interment will follow in Ney Cemetery, Ney, Ohio. Visitation for Mrs. Rachel will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2005 from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials in the name of Mary Rachel may be given to True Word Tabernacle, Bluffton, Ohio.
