View Video Tribute H. William “Bill” Harrison, age 82, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in his home after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Harrison was employed by The Aro Corporation (Ingersoll-Rand) as a supervisor, retiring with thirty-nine and one-half years of service. While at Aro he was involved in the formation of the fire brigade and served as brigade chief of the aeronautical division for many years. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater, where he received the Purple Heart for wounds received at the battle of Iwo Jima. He was a life member of the Marine Corps Association, American Legion Post #284 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2489, both of Bryan, Ohio, the Fifth Marine Division Association, the Second Marine Division Association, I.A.M. & Aerospace Workers Union, and the National Rifle Association. He served as a Bryan City Councilman from 1987-1997 and was honored to serve as council president three times during his tenure. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and served as a board member and volunteer with the Christian Women United Thrift Shop over thirty-seven years. Horace William “Bill” Harrison was born on November 10, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Robert Abraham and Mary Ann Elizabeth (Bigley) Harrison. He married Wanda C. Young on May 14, 1949, in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Harrison is survived by his five children, Michael W. (Wendy) Harrison, of Beavercreek, Ohio, Patricia Kaye, of Bryan, Ohio, Richard A. (Laurie) Harrison, of Battle Creek, Michigan, David E. (Lisa) Harrison and Dennis R. (Lori) Harrison, both of Bryan, Ohio, ten grandchildren, five girls and five boys, including twins, a boy and girl, two great-grandchildren and several foster children. He is also survived by two brothers, Harvey Harrison, of Toledo, Ohio, and Neil (JoEllen) Harrison, of Los Lunas, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Laura Ballert, Leona Harrison and Luella Winkle, and three brothers, Howard, Harold and Henry Harrison. Services for H. William “Bill” Harrison will be Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan, Ohio, with Father Charles Ritter officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery with grave side military rites conducted by Bryan American Legion Post #284. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, March 14, with recitation of the rosary to follow at 8:00 p.m. Memorials in the name of H. William “Bill” Harrison may be given to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to the Foundation for Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders.
