Reverend Harley J. Martin, age 92, of Miamisburg, Ohio, died on Saturday, February 2, 2008, in Miamisburg. Reverend Martin was a graduate of Gettysburg, Ohio, High School, Taylor University in Upland, Indiana, and Bonebrake Theological School in Dayton, Ohio. Ordained as a Deacon in 1945 and as an Elder in 1947, he was a member of the West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served the following churches in Ohio: Brandt-Union, South Lebanon-Morrow, Seven Mile-Darrtown, Arcanum, Quincy, Roseville, Belle Center, Edgerton-Emanuel from 1970-1979, Bryan Wesley as Minister of Visitation from 1979-1983 and Avon Park First in Avon Park, Florida. He was a past board member of the Avon Park Holiness Camp Meeting Association. He has been active in various civic organizations throughout his career. While in Edgerton, he was a member and Past President of the Edgerton Rotary Club, of which he was also a Paul Harris Fellow, and the Edgerton Masonic Lodge. Harley J. Martin was born on October 6, 1915 in Custer, Michigan the son of Joseph G. and Martha (Heimbaugh) Martin. He married Esther Lewis on May 23, 1943, in Piedmont, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Reverend Martin is survived by two sons, Brad (Sherry) Martin, of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Ken Martin, of Bryan, Ohio, one daughter, Carolyn Martin, of Edgerton, Ohio, and four grandchildren, Rebecca, Jim, Pete and Andy Martin. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Lee Martin, four sisters, Christina Miller, Goldie Reynolds, Leona Keever and Thelma Martin, and two brothers, Harvey and Mellard Martin. Services for Reverend Harley J. Martin will be on Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. in the Edgerton United Methodist Church in Edgerton, Ohio, with Reverend Randy Weaver (nephew to Reverend Martin) and Reverend Tim Gleason officiating. Visitation will be in the church one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton, Ohio. In lieu of floral arrangements, the family requests memorial gifts be given to the Edgerton United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 699, Edgerton, Ohio 43517) to fund mission work in Northern India through the United Methodist Church, an area where Esther Martin was born to missionary parents.
