Fern L.Hemenway, age 91, of Edon, Ohio, died at 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Harborside Healthcare of Northwest Ohio in Bryan, where she was a resident. Mrs. Hemenway was a graduate of Edon High School and Bowling Green State University. She taught school in the Edon Northwest School system, retiring with 36 years of service. She was a member of the Edon United Methodist Church, the Williams County Retired Teachers Association and was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Edon. Fern L. Hemenway was born on November 5, 1916, in Edon, Ohio, the daughter of Edward F. and Mabel (Fix) Gearhart. She married Darwin Hemenway in 1942, and he preceded her in death in 1944, losing his life during World War II. Mrs. Hemenway is survived by one daughter, Dee (Tom) Herman, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three brothers, William Gearhart and Larry (Louise) Gearhart, both of Edon, Ohio, and Daniel (Sue) Gearhart, of Pioneer, Ohio, and one sister Sue (Connie) Dewire, of Hamilton, Indiana. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Donald, Jacob, W. Gene and Richard Gearhart and an infant brother. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home in Edon, Ohio, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 22. Services will be private with interment in Edon Cemetery. Memorials in the name of Fern L. Hemenway may be given to the Edon Area Foundation to promote scholarship.
