Roger L. Bennett, age 71, of rural Edon, Ohio, died at 7:10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2008, shortly after admittance to DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn, Indiana. Mr. Bennett was a lifelong farmer and owner and operator of Bennett Seeds for more than twenty years, through which he earned numerous awards over the years. He also drove milk truck for the Montpelier Creamery and school bus for Edon Northwest Schools. He was a supporter and lifetime member of the Future Farmers of America and an avid supporter of 4-H and FFA youth during fair time. He also supported the Williams County Veterans. Mr. Bennett was a member of the Edon United Methodist Church, the Edon Lions Club, the Farm Bureau and Pheasants Forever. Roger L. Bennett was born on March 30, 1937, near Edon, Ohio, the son of Avery and Hazel (Kline) Bennett. He married Mary Jo Lehman on September 21, 1958, in West Unity, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Bennett is survived by two daughters, Becky Bennett, of Edon, Ohio and Laura (James) Wofford, of Lake City, Florida. He is also survived by one sister, Jean (Gary) Heller, of Whitehouse, Ohio, a sister-in-law, Janet Bennett, of Montpelier, Ohio, four nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Walter Bennett, in 2004. Services for Roger L. Bennett will be on Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Edon United Methodist Church with Pastor Eric Dailey officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier, Ohio. Visitation for Mr. Bennett will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, from 2-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28. Memorials in the name of Roger L. Bennett may be given to the Edon Chapter of the Future Farmers of America, Williams County Veterans Memorial or to the Edon United Methodist Church.
