Joseph W. Koerner, age 94, a lifelong resident of Edgerton, Ohio, died early on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in Aiken, South Carolina, where he was currently residing. Mr. Koerner was a 1932 graduate of Edgerton High School and received a degree in agriculture from The Ohio State University in 1937. He was a lifelong farmer and was actively involved in many local agriculture, forestry and soil conservation organizations. He was also an active member of the Edgerton United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Men and was a member of the Edgerton Masonic Lodge #357. Joseph W. Koerner was born on August 26, 1914, in Edgerton, Ohio, the son of William and Celia (Willman) Koerner. He married Iona G. Krill on November 28, 1943, in Edgerton, Ohio, and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, William (Jane) Koerner, of Bowling Green, Ohio, Jane Mallin, of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Phyllis (William) Donberg, of Torch Lake, Michigan, Patricia Bailey, of Aiken, South Carolina, Gregory (Marla) Koerner, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Edward Koerner, of Marysville, Ohio. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Katherine (Steve) Isler, Elizabeth Koerner, Sarah (Keith) Hendrix, Joseph Mallin, Jill and Benjamin Donberg, Carissa Mines and Catherine Bailey, two great-grandchildren, Antoni Lugin and Abigail Isler, and one brother, Robert (Marcella) Koerner, of Edgerton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Ruth Koerner, and a son-in-law, MacDonald Bailey. Services for Joseph W. Koerner will be on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. in the Edgerton United Methodist Church with Reverend R.L. Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton, Ohio. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 19. Memorials in the name of Joseph W. Koerner may be given to Regency Hospice of Aiken, South Carolina, or to a hospice of the donor’s choice.
