John W. Lutterbein

John William Lutterbein, age 86, longtime resident of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 8:40 a.m. on Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Jane Baker Center of the Otterbein North Shore Retirement Community in Port Clinton, Ohio, where he had been a resident since May. Mr. Lutterbein was a second-generation owner and operator of Lutterbein Lumber Company and Building Concepts with his brother, Richard. He was a 1942 graduate of Edgerton High School and a 1944 graduate of Heidelberg College. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. Mr. Lutterbein was a member of the Edgerton United Methodist Church, the Edgerton Masonic Lodge #357, John D. Smith Post #10 of the Edgerton American Legion, and the Edgerton Rotary Club,of which he was a Paul Harris Fellow, Past President and Rotarian of the Year. He and his brother, Richard, are also past Citizens of the Year in Edgerton. John William Lutterbein was born on July 23, 1922, in Hicksville, Ohio, the son of Benjamin Henry and Alma M. (Geiger) Lutterbein. He married Myrtle I. Rowe on February 1, 1948, in Edgerton, Ohio, and she survives. Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Carol (Craig) Johnson, of Huron, Ohio, Ruth Fischer, of Springfield, Ohio, William (Diana) Lutterbein, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Alice E. (Gary) Young, of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, two brothers, Richard Lutterbein, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Edward (Nancy) Lutterbein, of Webster, New York, and one sister, Marian (Paul) Rohrbaugh, of West Lake, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Brian William Lutterbein. Services for John William Lutterbein will be on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Edgerton United Methodist Church with Pastor Rick Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton, Ohio. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17. Memorials in the name of John William Lutterbein may be given to the Edgerton Area Foundation Rotary Scholarship Fund or the Edgerton United Methodist Church.
