View Video Tribute Marlin W. “Red” Pettit, age 69, of Edgerton, Ohio, died on Thursday, December 6, 2007, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he was a patient for one week. Mr. Pettit owned and operated Reddy Electric from 1970-1985 and then became the Electric Superintendent for the Village of Edgerton until his retirement. He served on the Edgerton Fire department from 1964-1980 and as mayor of Edgerton from 2000-2003. He was also a longtime baseball umpire and served on the Edgerton Board of Public Affairs. He was currently a board member of the Williams County Humane Society, was a past member of the Williams County Fair Board, and was a member of the Williams County Planning Commission. Mr. Pettit was an avid woodworker and attended the Edgerton Alliance Church. Marlin W. “Red”Pettit was born on March 27, 1938, in Hillsdale, Michigan, the son of William F. and Wilma B. (Kirkingburg) Pettit. He married Karen B. Dunson on May 22, 1960, in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Pettit is survived by two sons, Robbin (Kelly) Pettit, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Sean Pettit, of Bryan, Ohio, one daughter, Gidget Pettit, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, six grandchildren, Robbin Jr, Jessica, Danon, Katey, Allison and Colby Pettit, and one sister, Jeanice Snyder, of Southern Pines, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Jeanette Clark, and his stepmother, Bessie Pettit. Services for Marlin W. “Red” Pettit will be on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, with Pastor Troy Bondy officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton, Ohio. Visitation will from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, December 10. Memorials in the name of Marlin W. “Red” Pettit may be given to the Williams County Humane Society.
