Helen M. Stemen-Kaiser

Helen M. Stemen-Kaiser, age 86, of Edgerton and former long-time resident of Butler, Indiana, died early Tuesday morning, September 2, 2008, at DeKalb Memorial Hospital in Auburn, Indiana, where she was a resident. Mrs. Stemen-Kaiser attended the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Butler Eagles and Butler American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid bowler and was a member of the Butler Bowling League for forty years. She was employed as a secretary in the Records Department at DeKalb Memorial Hospital for ten years, retiring in 1978, and prior to that she had worked at Universal Tool in Butler for eleven years. She is also a former Bowler of the Year at Butler Lanes. Helen May Stemen-Kaiser was born on March 15, 1922, in DeKalb County, Indiana, the daughter of Henry and Louise (Palmer) Bry. She married Homer Stemen on December 11, 1940, and he preceded her in death in 1968. She then married Robert Kaiser on February 14, 1970, and he preceded her in death in 1974. Mrs. Stemen-Kaiser is survived by two daughters, Marge (Jim) Myers, of Huntertown, Indiana, and Karen (Brad) Karris, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, one son, James (Elaine) Stemen, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, two stepchildren, Steve Kaiser, of Lenor, North Carolina, and Sheri Piper, of Reading, Michigan, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Virginia Finley and Bess Hornet, both of Auburn, Indiana. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marsha Faye Stemen, three brothers, Sam, Charles and Bud Bry, and a sister, Mildred. Services for Helen May Stemen-Kaiser will be on Saturday, September 6, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio. Interment will follow in the Butler Cemetery in Butler, Indiana. Visitation will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, September 5. Memorials in the name of Helen M. Stemen-Kaiser may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
