View Video Tribute Kermit O. Cape, age 85, of Angola, Indiana, died at 1:45 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2005 in Northern Lakes Nursing Center in Angola where he was a resident. Mr. Cape was a toolmaker and was employed by JBM Tool and Die in Bryan, Ohio for many years and then by JB Tool in Fort Wayne, Indiana for twenty years. Mr. Cape was engaged in the farming business with his brother Sherman for many years and also in the excavating business with Russell Groff. He was a graduate of Edgerton High School and was an avid motorcyclist. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps and was a member of John D. Smith Post #10 of the American Legion in Edgerton. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edgerton and the Knights of Columbus #1494 in Edgerton, Ohio. In his retirement he was blood runner for the Red Cross and delivered meals on wheels for eighteen years in Angola. Kermit O. Cape was born February 10, 1920, near Edgerton, Ohio, the son of Guy C. and Agnes A. (Goebel) Cape. He was married and preceded in death his by three wives, Betty Stauffer, Nadene Buck and Charlotte Zigler. Mr. Cape is survived by two daughters, Laura (Al) Brooks, of Titus, Alabama, Babette Carr, of Defiance, Ohio, two sons, Charles (Sharon) Cape, of Parker, Colorado and Doyle Cape, of San Diego, California, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Paul C., Sherman O. (Rozella), Frank D. (Maralyn), and Donald A. (Patricia) Cape all of Edgerton, and three sisters, Rose Mary Johnson and Ellen Sleesman, and Rita A. (Clarence) Wuebben all of Edgerton, Ohio. In addition to his wives he was preceded in death by one son Kermit Michael Cape in 1969 and two brothers, Earl A. Cape and Conrad J. Cape. Services for Kermit O. Cape will be Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Edgerton, Ohio with graveside military rites conducted by John D. Smith, Post #10 of the Edgerton American Legion. Visitation will be at the Krill Funeral Home in Edgerton from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, September 26. A scripture service will be held Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. Memorials in the name of Kermit O. Cape may be given to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or to the Red Cross.
