Homer N. Rhodes

Homer N. Rhodes, age 89, of rural Edgerton, Ohio, died at 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Rhodes was self-employed as a farmer and as a crane operator. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during WWII. His memberships included the Eagles Lodge and the Moose Lodge, both in Defiance, Ohio, and the Anti-tank Association. Homer N. Rhodes was born on November 17, 1919, in Paulding, Ohio, the son of Wm. Raymond and Marcella (Mayrish) Rhodes. He married Jean Smith on April 10, 1941, in Napoleon, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on March 18, 1999. Also surviving are one daughter, Janice C. (Larry) Poth, and one son, Larry R. (Vicki) Rhodes, both of Hicksville, Ohio; four grandchildren, Paula Poth, of Hicksville, Deb (Toby) Shirkey, of Bryan, Ohio, Jodi (Eric) Bennett, of Lima Ohio, and Haley Rhodes, of Hicksville; and seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon and Bethany Shirkey, Eric, Breauna, Aerica and Rodney Bennett; and a special friend, Evelyn Gorrell. Mr. Rhodes was also preceded in death by three brothers, William, Raymond and Edgar Rhodes, and five sisters, Kathleen Rhodes, Rachel Wade, Claudia Fillmore, Connie Corduray and Pearl Corduray. Visitation for Homer N. Rhodes will be on Friday, April 3, 2009, from 2:00-8:00 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio. Services will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, with Reverend Clarence Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow in Lost Creek Cemetery, near Hicksville, Ohio. Memorials in the name of Homer N. Rhodes may be given to the Community Health & Wellness Centers Hospice.
