John P. Schelling, age 101, of Bryan, Ohio, and most recently of Indian Lake, Ohio, where he resided with his daughter, died at 8:10 P.M. on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Lima Memorial Hospital, Lima, Ohio, where he was a patient. Mr. Schelling was a member of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He was employed by Ohio Art Company as a die setter, retiring after 44 ½ years of service. He was a member of the First Brethren Church in Bryan and a member of the Indian Lake Moose Lodge. He was also an avid fisherman and storyteller. John P. Schelling was born on July 24, 1908, in Minot, North Dakota, the son of Edward and Edith (Koch) Schelling. He married Elsie B. Bok on November 5, 1933, in Bryan, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on February 9, 2006. He is survived by one daughter, Marlene (Doug Kuhn) Flora, of Belle Center, Ohio, one grandson, David (Carol) Flora, of Greenfield, Indiana, and seven great-grandchildren. Services for John P. Schelling will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor Sam Shultz officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Cemetery, Sherwood, Ohio, with grave side military rites conducted by Bryan VFW Post #2489. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Memorials in the name of John P. Schelling may be given to the First Brethren Church, Bryan.
