View Video Tribute Carlton D. “Jack” Johnston, 97, of rural Bryan died Monday, August 8, 2005, at The Inn at Fountain Park, Bryan, Ohio, where he had been a resident since October 2004. A graduate of Edgerton High School, Mr. Johnston had a milk truck business before purchasing the Pulaski General Store from Frank Mallory in 1938. In 1946, a frozen food locker plant was added where meat was processed. Mr. Johnston operated the business until his retirement in 1972. Following his retirement, he delivered meals from Bryan High School to the elementary schools. Mr. Johnston was a member of the Pulaski United Methodist Church, where he served faithfully on the Board of Trustees for many years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed cutting wood in his farm near Edgerton. Carlton D. Johnston was born on January 26, 1908, in Champaign, Illinois, the son of Robert C. and Lena (Hanks) Johnston. He married V. Hope Farnham on February 25, 1929, in Bryan, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Johnston is survived by two daughters, Barbara (LaVon) Eschhofen, of Bryan, Ohio, and Mary (Don) Hovis of Benson, Arizona; one son, Carl W. (Chris) Johnston, of Mission Viejo, California; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Delle Knisely, of Sherwood, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Alta Mae Swineheart, and two brothers, Linn and Cecil Johnston. Funeral services for Carlton Johnston will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2005, in the Pulaski United Methodist Church, 06950 State Route 127, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastors Debbie Kaylor and Gerald Mallott officiating. Grave side committal services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday in Maple Grove Cemetery, Edgerton, Ohio. Visitation for Mr. Johnston will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2005, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials in the name of Carlton Johnston may be given to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers Hospice Care or the Pulaski United Methodist Church.
