June Shankster, age 87, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009, in her home after an illness of one week. Mrs. Shankster was a graduate of Bryan High School. She also was a longtime teacher's aide and librarian at the Pulaski School and managed the family farms until her death. She attended the Pulaski United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women, and was a former member of the Sweet Adelines. June Shankster was born on November 27, 1921, near West Unity, Ohio, the daughter of Vern O. and Cora Mae (Schull) Page. She married Maurice C. Shankster on September 19, 1939, in Bryan, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on September 13, 1981. Mrs. Shankster is survived by her children, Vondaile (Leroy) Fenicle, of Montpelier, Ohio, Garvin (Linda) Shankster, of Sanibel Island, Florida, and Carolyn (David) Carey, of Bryan, Ohio, and one sister, Eleanor Smith, of Ney, Ohio. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Robyn (Misty) Fenicle, of Montpelier, Ohio, Corey Fenicle, of Lake Seneca, Ohio, Laura (Brian) Cawley, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Scott Shankster, of Sanibel Island, Florida, Stephanie (Dale) Steber, of Racine, Wisconsin, and Angela (Joseph) Herder, of Ney, Ohio, and four great-great- grandchildren, Sean Cawley, Erin Cawley, Keith Shaffer and Jesse Herder. Services for June Shankster will be on Friday, February 6, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor Debbie Kaylor officiating. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 5, 2009, from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials in the name of June Shankster may be given to the Pulaski United Methodist Church, Gideons International or to a charity of the donor's choice.
