Ruth Rogene Ramona Lewis Camp, age 92, expired February 7, 2009 in her Bryan, OH home. She was preceded in death by husband Alvin. Survivors include daughters Bonni (Rex) Ford, Sherwood, OH; Barbara Westby, Portland, OR; son Jorge “Sonny” Camp, Ciudad Juárez and Mexico City, Mexico; grandchildren Stacy (Bob) Lambert and Brad (Lisa) Ford, Ney, OH; Florance, Camp, and Harvey grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, U.S. and Mexico; cousin Dorothy Lewis Davis, Beaverton, OR; and loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Friends include Laverne Grupp, Gladys Richardson, Margaret Bradley, Lori Krzycki, Joanne Ohman, Renee Isaac, Penny Lewis, Mary Sharrock and Elizabeth Galliers, all of Bryan area; many others who shared five decades of community service with 4-H, Girl Scouts, Red Cross Gray Ladies, Garden Club, Fountain City Squares, Moose Lodge and TOPS; Ethel Bohrer, Garrett, IN; Virginia Napolitano, WA; Gene Blythe, IL; Maureen Lovett, Madeleine Currier, Canada; and Ellis, Yoder, Curtis, Busch, Cantine, Brown, Spitnale and Settles families, Palmetto, FL. Special thanks to Betty Ford, mother of Rex Ford; brother-in-law Keith Camp; Dr. Atluri Rajya; Anthony Saunders at Williams County EMS; Attorney Ryan Thompson; CHWC ICU and Hospice Staff.; and neighbors Tim and Kary Ordway and their children, who witnessed Ruth’s indomitable spirit, fairness, social justice, and avid support for President Barack Obama. As were President George Washington, Robert E. Lee, and Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis & Clark expedition, Ruth was a direct descendent of the Warner and Lewis families of Colonial Virginia, whose ancestral home and history may be viewed at www.warrnerhall.com. now a Bed and Breakfast facility Queen Elizabeth II is also a direct descendent of Augustine Warner. In 1957 she visited his grave at the Warner and Lewis Cemetery behind Warner Hall. Ruth had family ties with King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia of Spain. Jorge Camp and Renee Capels initiated the rehabilitation of the historic San Fernando Mission in Carrizal, Chihuahua to honor Ruth’s ancestor King Ferdinand III, Saint of the Spanish Royal Family. Nobility aside, Ruth was a WWII Rosie the Riveter who went from Portland, Oregon to drive a tractor and harvest produce on her husband’s Michigan farm. She later traveled in a small trailer with Alvin, their children and Beagles to lay Ohio Gas Company pipelines. Ruth practiced what she preached, walked the talk and assisted the needy. Her forthright nature resembled her late relative, actor Steve McQueen.
