View Video Tribute Richard L. “Dick” Schaefer, 76 years, of Bryan, died at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, October 17, 2005, in his residence with his family at his side. Mr. Schaefer was an Army veteran of the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sargent. Mr. Schaefer was the owner of the former Carroll-Ames Hardware, where he began working at the age of 17 until his retirement on December 31, 2001. He was a former member of First Presbyterian Church, Bryan Kiwanis Club, Bryan Moose Lodge and the Bryan Masonic Lodge #215. He was active with the Bryan Chamber of Commerce, where he served on its Board of Directors, and the Bryan Economic Development Corporation. Mr. Schaefer also served on the Bryan Planning and Zoning Committee. He also sat on the Board of Directors for the following associations: The Ohio Hardware Association, Tru-Value Hardware Corporation and Ohio Citizens National Bank. He was the Grand Marshall for the Bryan Jubilee Parade in 1997. He also was a co-founder of the Bryan Downtown Cruise-in for those who collected and restored vintage automobiles. He formerly belonged to Orchard Hills Country Club. Richard L. “Dick” Schaefer was born on May 9, 1929, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Charles A. and Mary Anne (Morgan) Schaefer. He married Joyce J. Lovejoy on November 14, 1951, in Bryan, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Schaefer is survived by one daughter, Shelly Lynn (Randy) Price, of Bryan; two sons, Timothy L. Schaefer, of Fremont, Indiana, and Michael S. (Lynne) Schaefer, of Antioch, Tennessee; three grandchildren, Tiffany S. (Scott) Phillips, of Fremont, Indiana, Tyson D. Schaefer, also of Fremont, Indiana, and Nathaniel A. Price, of Bryan; one great-granddaughter, Katelyn Grace Phillips; and one brother, Gene Schaefer, of Lompoc, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, David Neal Schaefer, and one brother, John Schaefer. Funeral services for Richard L. Schaefer will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 21, 2005, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastors Jon Exman and Rick Barnett officiating. Interment will follow in Fountain Grove Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Schaefer will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2005, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials in the name of Richard L. Schaefer may be given to Hospice-The Caring Way of Williams and Fulton Counties.
