Harold Ray Steele

Harold R. Steele, age 94, of Edgerton, Ohio, and former Decatur, Indiana, and Columbia, Ohio, resident, died at 3:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009, at Park View Nursing Center, Edgerton, Ohio, where he was a resident for six years. Mr. Steele was a member of the Columbia Church of Christ, Columbia, Ohio. He was employed by Norwalk Truck Lines and drove Lima city buses for many years. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working on cars and many building projects in his free time. Harold R. Steele was born on August 28, 1915, in Lima, Ohio, the son of Walter R. and Pearl M. (Evans) Steele. He married Virginia A. (Burlew) Steele on December 26, 1966, and she preceded him in death on January 9, 2000. Surviving are six children, Virginia (Jim) Spencer, of Lima, Ohio, Mildred Laudick, of Ada, Ohio, Ellen (Dale) Redd, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Pam (Paul) Wingate, of Bluffton, Ohio, Terry (Connie) Steele, of Lebanon, Indiana, and Richard (Linda) Steele, of Ada, Ohio, and two stepchildren, George Richardson, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Roger Richardson, of Hillsdale, Michigan. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, preceding him in death were a daughter and son-in-law, Pearl (Susie) and Raymond Archer, Sr., two sons, Sonny and Lester Steele, a son-in-law, Paul Laudick, a sister, Ruby Joseph, one grandchild, one step-grandchild, and three step-great-grandchildren. Grave side services for Harold R. Steele will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Edon Cemetery, Edon, Ohio, with Nathan Derico, Minister officiating. Memorials in the name of Harold R. Steele may be given to Park View Nursing Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.
