Jerry L. Herbert, age 68, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 1:35 a.m. on Friday, January 23, 2009, in his home from smoking related illnesses. Jerry was well known in the Bryan area for working at the Carlin Hardware, Carroll-Ames, Laub Auto Parts and General/ Continental/Titan Tire, from where he retired in 2007. He was a native of Toledo, Ohio, where he was a 1959 graduate of Waite High School and was active as a football player and as student assistant coach. He served in the United States Army from 1963-1965. Jerry enjoyed amateur trap shooting, automobiles, football and his family. Jerry Lee Herbert was born on July 6, 1940, in Toledo, Ohio, the son of Archie and Mildred N. (Smith) Herbert. He married Carol Sue Galloway on December 28, 1963, in Toledo, Ohio, and she survives. Mr. Herbert is also survived by three children, two sons, William Herbert, of Bryan, Ohio, and Kenneth (Colleen) Herbert, of Montpelier, Ohio, and one daughter, Suzanne (James) Simon, of Wauseon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-brother, David. Services celebrating the life of Jerry L. Herbert will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor John MacFarlane officiating. The family will receive visitors prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of floral remembrances, contributions are requested to be given to the family.
