Marie Hug, 89, of rural Edon, Ohio, died at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009, in her home surrounded by family. A graduate of Butler High School, Mrs. Hug was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Blakeslee, Ohio, where she was actively involved in the Altar Society. Marie was born on November 5, 1919, in Hamilton, Indiana, the daughter of Olan and Edith (Little) Bender. She married Eldred R. Hug on April 30, 1938, in Edgerton, Ohio, and he survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Karol (Marlin) Livensparger, of Edon, Judith Davis, of Edgerton, Ohio, Kathy (Don) Smathers, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Elizabeth (Walter) Greaux, of Bryan, Ohio; six sons, Edward Hug, of Edgerton, Gary (Pam) Hug, of Carmel, Indiana, James A. (Holly) Hug, of Wilmington, North Carolina, Mike (Pam) Hug, of Edon, Mark (Kate) Hug, of Flemington, New Jersey, and Brent (Anne) Hug, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 57 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Glena Davis, of Atlanta, Georgia. She was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Hug, in 1983, one son-in-law, Denver Davis, one brother, Lynn Bender, one sister, Irene Ewers, one granddaughter, Gina Hug, and one great-grandson, Jacob Livensparger. Services for Marie Hug will be held on Monday, July 27, 2009, at 10:30 A.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Blakeslee, with Father Stephen Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Blakeslee. Visitation will be held in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, from 2:00-8:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 26, 2009, with recitation of the rosary at 8:00 P.M. Memorials in the name of Marie Hug may be given to Hospital Hospice & Home Health or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
