Esther Lewis Martin

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” - Matthew 25:21 (NIV) Esther Warne Lewis Martin of Miamisburg, Ohio, passed away on December 23, 2008. She was 85. Esther Martin was born on May 20, 1923, in Nainital, India, to Rev. L. Chester and Emma (Tanner) Lewis. She was married on May 23, 1943, to Rev. Harley Martin, who preceded her in death earlier this year. She is survived by three children, Brad (Sherry) Martin, of Miamisburg, Carolyn Martin, of Edgerton, and Ken Martin, of Bryan; and four grandchildren, Rebecca, Jim, Pete and Andy Martin. She was also preceded in death by one son, Robert Lee, two sisters, Dorothy Diltz and Ruth Deal, and one brother, Charles Lewis. Mrs. Martin graduated from East Liverpool High School, East Liverpool, Ohio, and Ohio University. She taught elementary school in the following Ohio communities: Roseville, Belle Center, Bryan (St. Patrick’s), and Edgerton. Along with her husband, she was active in the following United Methodist churches in Ohio: Brandt-Union, South Lebanon-Morrow, Seven Mile-Darrtown, Arcanum, Quincy, Roseville, Belle Center, Edgerton-Emanuel, and Bryan Wesley and Avon Park First in Avon Park, Florida. She was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church. She attended Hollow Rock Camp Meeting and Avon Park Holiness Camp Meeting for many years. The family extends special appreciation to the staffs of Elmcroft of Washington Township and Hospice of Dayton. Memorial services will be held at the Edgerton United Methodist Church, Edgerton, Ohio, on Monday, December 29, at 1:00 p.m. Visitation at the church will begin at noon. Rev. Randy Weaver (her nephew) and Rev. Brad Martin will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Edgerton United Methodist Church (P.O. Box 699, Edgerton, Ohio 43517) to fund mission work in Northern India through the United Methodist Church. (This is the area where she was born to her missionary parents.)
