Delano F. Backlund

Delano F. Backlund, age 73, of Bryan, Ohio, and formerly a long-time resident of Wauseon, Ohio, died at 3:17 p.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2008, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan. Mr. Backlund was a retired laborer with his most recent employment with Johns-Manville in Defiance, Ohio. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Delano F. Backlund was born on November 25, 1934, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Alvin Theodore and Rose Ann (Strekn) Backlund. He is survived by two daughters, JoDel (Scott) Freeman, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Yolanda Backlund, of Toledo, Ohio, three grandchildren, Sierra, Dakota and Madison Freeman, two brothers, Darwin (Evelyn) Backlund, of San Angelo, Texas, and Al Backlund, of San Diego, California, two sisters, JoAnn (William) Piekney, of Vienna, Virginia, and Marie Dombrock, of Austin, Minnesota, and his ex-wife and friend, Joann Firsdon, of Toledo. Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents. A service celebrating the life of Delano F. Backlund will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at 4:00 pm. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor Byron Adams officiating, followed by military rites conducted by Bryan VFW Post #2489. Memorials in the name of Delano F. Backlund may be given to the Williams County Veterans Building or to the family.
