Evelyn J. Armstrong, age 79, of Hamilton, Indiana, died at 8:29 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2008, in her home after a twenty-three month battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease. She was surrounded by her three loving sons and many family members as she joined Earl, her husband of fifty-seven years, in heaven. Mrs. Armstrong was a graduate of Montpelier High School, a 1955 graduate of Olivet Nazarene University and received her Master’s Degree from Ball State University. She was a devoted pastor’s wife, serving alongside her husband for fifty-one years in the ministry. She was currently a member of the California United Presbyterian Church in California, Michigan, where she and her husband had served for thirty-six years. She was an elementary school teacher, serving Hudson, Farmland and Hamilton school systems, retiring with twenty-five years of service, of which nineteen were in the Hamilton, Indiana, school system. She was past president of Delta Kappa Gamma women’s professional teachers association from 1978-1980. Evelyn J. Armstrong was born on September 4, 1929, in West Jefferson, Ohio, the daughter of Andrew and Flossie (Gordon) Moore. She married Earl Armstrong on July 5, 1949, in Montpelier, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on December 28, 2006. Mrs. Armstrong is survived by three sons, Jerry (Helen) Armstrong, of Waterloo, Indiana, Lynn (Jing) Armstrong, of Fishers, Indiana, and Lyle (Jayne) Armstrong, of Angola, Indiana, twelve grandchildren, Matt (Candie) Armstrong, Lori (Jody) Wiedenhoeft, Mandy Shepherd, Nathan Armstrong, Stephanie (Lance) Witham, Travis (Maritza) Armstrong, Scott (Devan) Armstrong, Seth (Cathy) Armstrong, Melissa, Shannon and Patrick Armstrong, and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Carol (Dale) Hamman, of Hamilton, Indiana, two brothers, Raymond (Aileen) Moore, of Columbia, Ohio, and Robert (Joy) Moore, of Clear Lake, Indiana. Services for Evelyn J. Armstrong will be on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio, with Pastor Norm Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home from 3-8 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2008. Memorials in the name of Evelyn J. Armstrong may given to the Cameron Hospital Hospice Program in Angola, Indiana.
