E. Charles Sickmiller, 90 years, of West Unity, Ohio, died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2005, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Bryan, Ohio. A WWII Navy veteran, Mr. Sickmiller was a minister in the Free Methodist Church for over 40 years, serving in Norwich and Stanwood, Michigan, Redwood City, Glendale, Orville and Chino, California. He was a member of the West Unity American Legion Post 669. He attended the West Unity United Methodist Church and also the West Unity Free Methodist Church. E. Charles Sickmiller was born on June 9, 1915, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Elmer Grover and Netta (Stoll) Sickmiller. He married Evelyn Alpaugh on December 9, 1940, and she preceded him in death in December 2001. He then married Felicia (Swalley) Altman on July 21, 2004, in West Unity, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Felicia, Mr. Sickmiller is survived by ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; stepson, Jeffrey (Julie) Altman, of Cleveland, Ohio; stepson-in-law, Larry (Dorothy) Ley, of Hillsdale, Michigan; one sister, Betty Sharp, of Sand Lake, Michigan; five brothers, Robert (Maxine) Sickmiller, of Cedar Springs, Michigan, Marvin Sickmiller, of Monroe, Louisiana, James (Eilene) Sickmiller, of Bryan, John Sickmiller, also of Bryan and Ralph (Bernie) Sickmiller, of Leesburg, Florida. He also has several nieces and nephews who survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Evelyn Alpaugh Sickmiller, son, Billy Sickmiller, daughter, Mary Lee Coppom, and stepdaughter, Barbara Altman Ley. Memorial services for E. Charles Sickmiller will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2005 in the West Unity United Methodist Church, with Pastors Ruth Ann Scobie and John Wommer, officiating. Arrangements by Krill Funeral Service, Bryan, Ohio. Memorials in the name of E. Charles Sickmiller may be given to the American Lung Association.
