View Video Tribute Karen I. Whitney, age 66, of Edon, Ohio, died at 3:25 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2005, in her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Whitney was a sales representative for Avon cosmetics. She was a 1957 graduate of Edon High School and graduated from Beauty School in 1958. She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon where she was active in the choir, the Friendship Circle, WELCA and also taught Sunday School. She was former Emergency Medical Technician in Edon for six years and is a member of the Florence Township Firebelles. She was a longtime election board volunteer and was also the former records director for Thrivent. She is also a member of the Bryan Moose Lodge #1064 and the Red Hat Society. Karen I. Whitney was born January 12, 1939 near Montpelier, Ohio the daughter of John Robert and Edna Marie (Walz) Hinkle. She married Donald L. Whitney on May 10, 1959 in Edon and he survives. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Whitney is also survived by one daughter Tina (Mike) Surfus, of Edon, Ohio, two sons, Terry ( Joyce) Whitney, and Timothy (Melissa) Whitney both of Edon, Ohio, eight grandchildren and one brother, Harold Joe (Marge) Hinkle, of Edgerton. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson Evan Wayne Surfus in 2002. Services for Karen I.Whitney will be Monday, February 21, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon Ohio with Pastor Don Lechrone officiating. Burial will follow in Edon Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday, February 20. Memorials in the name of Karen I. Whitney may be given to Cancer Assistance of Williams County, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Hospice Care.
