Walter A. Heller, age 84, of Hamilton, Indiana, died at 4:10 a.m on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Lakeland Nursing Center in Angola, Indiana, where he was a resident. Mr. Heller was employed by Northwest Materials and then with Brooks Construction as Superintendent of the Asphalt Division. He served on the Hamilton Town Board and on the Hamilton Fire Department. He then spent nearly ten years in Florida, where he served on the San Carlos Fire Department. He returned to Hamilton in his retirement. Walter A. Heller was born on July 15, 1923, in Richland Township, Indiana, the son of Owen and Elsie (Schoonover) Heller. He is survived by two daughters, Debra (Charles) Hurraw, of Hamilton, Indiana, and Denise (Mitchell) Buell, of Angola, Indiana, four sons, Jim (Barb) Heller, of Auburn, Indiana, Steve (Deb) Heller, of Grabill, Indiana, Ron (Candy) Heller, of Hamilton, Indiana, and Dave (Annette Sutton) Heller, of Angola, Indiana, twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Eleanor Fox and Diane Best, both of Edon, Ohio. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Emmett Heller, a daughter, Barbara JoEllen Heller, and one grandson, Brian Heller. Grave side services for Walter A. Heller will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. in Eddy Cemetery near Hamilton, Indiana, with Pastor Donna Holcomb of the Alvarado United Methodist Church officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorials in the name of Walter A. Heller may be given to the Hamilton, Indiana, Fire Department.
