View Video Tribute Millard F. Carpenter, 80, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 6:24 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2005, at the Dilworth Center of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers, Montpelier, Ohio. A graduate of Stryker High School with the class of 1942, Mr. Carpenter attained his private pilot’s license in the 1950s and flew airplanes recreationally for many years. A WWII Army veteran, Mr. Carpenter was employed by the former Aro Corporation as a data processor for 37 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bryan, Ohio, where he was ordained as a deacon on January 31, 1988. He also was a member of the West Unity American Legion Post #0669 and the Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233. Mr. Carpenter also played softball, both fast pitch and slow pitch, for the Bryan Eagles and for church teams. He was a member of the 1950 Bryan Eagles fast pitch softball team that won the Ohio National Softball Congress State Championship and went on to play in the World Championship in Greeley, Colorado. Millard also coached Little League, Colt League and the Bryan American Legion Baseball teams. Millard F. Carpenter was born on July 21, 1924, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Filmore and Emma (Merillat) Carpenter. He married Lois Bowen on June 15, 1947. He then married Doris Eberly on September 29, 1984, and she preceded him in death on March 27, 2005. Surviving is his son, Kim (Sharon) Carpenter, of Bryan, Ohio; stepdaughter, Kathy (Roger) Detwiler, of Alvordton, Ohio, stepson, Denny (Linda) Scott, of Bryan, Ohio; grandsons, Doug and Chris Carpenter, both of Bryan, Ohio; four stepgrandchildren, Jeremy (Jamie) Scott and Tracey (Bob) Carter, both of Bryan, Ohio, Korby and Bryce Detwiler, both of Alvordton, Ohio; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and one brother, Elden (Mary) Carpenter, of Bryan, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister, Marie. Memorial services for Millard F. Carpenter will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2005, in the First Presbyterian Church, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor Rob Marrow officiating. Private interment will take place in Shiffler Cemetery, rural Bryan. Visitation for Mr. Carpenter will be held on Thursday, July 21, 2005, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio. Memorials in the name of Millard F. Carpenter may be given to First Presbyterian Church, Bryan, Ohio, or to Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers - Hospice Care.
