View Video Tribute Edwin L. Middleton, age 73, of Montpelier (Nettle Lake), Ohio, died at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2006, after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Middleton was employed by S.E. Johnson Construction Company as a heavy equipment operating engineer retiring, in 1991 with thirty-four years of service. He was a thirty-two year veteran of the Damascus Township Fire Department, served ten years as a McClure, Ohio, village councilman and one year as the McClure village mayor. He also served on various committees with the Nettle Lake Nettle Fest. Edwin L. Middleton was born on November 18, 1932, near Ridgeville Corners, Ohio, the son of Garn and Francis (Spurgeon) Middleton. He married Della M. Staples on July 25, 1980, in McClure, Ohio, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Middleton is survived by his children, Bill (Bonnie) Middleton, of Alexandria, Virginia, Tim (Debbie) Middleton and Tom (Carol) Middleton, both of Napoleon, Ohio, Barry (Susie) Segrist, of Archbold, Ohio, and Pam Delvechio, of Maiden, North Carolina, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers, Chuck Middleton, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and Derry Middleton, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, Chuck (Jo) Middleton, of Toledo, Ohio, four sisters, Edith Spurgeon, of Fremont, Michigan, Phyllis Gilliland, of Nettle Lake, Ohio, Louise Rutowski, of Bryan, Ohio, and Doris Verbeke, of McClure, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan and Dick Middleton, and one sister, Kay Allen. A visitation celebrating the life of Edwin L. Middleton will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2006, from 1-3 p.m. at the Krill Funeral Home in Edon, Ohio. Memorials in the name of Edwin L. Middleton may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
