Charles F. “Chuck” Swank, age 84, died at 9:13 A.M. on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers in Bryan, Ohio, where he was a patient. Mr. Swank was employed by Simpson Industries in Edon and retired with twenty years of service. He loved to listen to country music and being out and about in the community. He was an avid collector of coins and worked on lawn mowers and bicycles. Charles L. Swank was born on December 8, 1925, near Pioneer in Williams County, the son of Melville and Mary Jane (Mahaffey) Swank. He married Ruth Knecht on February 28, 1944, in West Unity, Ohio, and she survives. Also surviving are his children, Danny (Debra) Swank, of Edon, Roger (Judi) Swank, of Bryan, Ronald (Sharon) Swank, of Edon, Sue Altaffer, of Defiance, Michael Swank, of Stryker and Timothy (fiancee, Cindy Missler) Swank, of Montpelier, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, seven stepgreat-grandchildren and two sisters, Lola Hoffman, of Pioneer, and Grace Foust, of Montpelier. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Gus, Walter, Elmer “Barney” and Robert Swank, two sisters, Marjorie Thompson and Gwen Davis, of Montpelier, one great-granddaughter, Baylee Trausch, and a stepgrandson. Visitation for Charles F. “Chuck” Swank will be on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edon, Ohio. Services will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Edon, Ohio, with Reverend Clayton J. Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in the Edon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Edon Senior Center or to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.
