View Video Tribute Hobart S. “Bo” Murphy, 79 years, of Woodburn, Indiana, died on Monday, May 29, 2006, at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana, after a three-week illness. An Army/Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict, Bo was a self-employed truck driver for over 45 years, retiring in September 2000. He had owned Murphy’s Service Station in Johnstown, Ohio. He was a member of the Fort Wayne American Legion Post 47, the Indiana International Antique Tractor Club and attended Grace Brethren Church in Fort Wayne. He was also the recipient of over twenty driving safety awards. Hobart S. “Bo” Murphy was born on June 11, 1926, in Barnesville, Ohio, the son of John M. and Opal (Steen) Murphy. He married Linda L. Gilcher on November 9, 1985, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Murphy is survived by his daughter, Patricia Helm, of Fountain Valley, California; his son, Matthew (Debbie Green-Murphy) Murphy, of Columbus, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Tere (Dan) Hostetler of Illinois; a stepson, Ron (Joyce) Purk, of Oak Harbor, Ohio; grandchildren, Chris (Dena) Blackburn, Devoni and Elias Murphy; stepgrandchildren, Jena Suffel, of Bryan, Josh Suffel, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, Gage and Nathaniel Green, Allison, Andrew & Gunnar Hostetler, Angela, Amelia and Nathan Purk; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Geneva Hoopes, of Goshen, Indiana, Becky Goldsmith, of Newark, Ohio, and Marlene Davy, of Zanesville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepdaughters, Shelley Hartman and Debbie Zedaker, two sisters, Audrey Goldsmith and Helen Griffith, and one brother, Ellis A. “Buck” Murphy. Funeral services for Hobart S. “Bo” Murphy will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2006, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor Bob Arenobine and Rev. David Hunte officiating. Grave side services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, Ohio, with military grave side services conducted by Defiance VFW Post 3360 and the Marine Corps League Detachment. Visitation for Mr. Murphy will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2006, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
