View Video Tribute Evelyn Emma Whitney-Jackson, 82, of Bryan, Ohio, died on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Evelyn was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Bryan, Ohio. Evelyn began her working career as a soda jerk for the former Keen’s Drug Store, Bryan. She then was a seamstress for many years for the former Hawk’s Department Store. She also was a clerk for the Williams County Public Library, Bryan, and for ten years was the Williams County Executive Director for the American Cancer Society. In the 1960s, Evelyn was a Grey Lady volunteer for the Bryan Hospital and a Girl Scout Troop Leader in Bryan. Evelyn Emma Whitney-Jackson was born on March 24, 1923, in Melbern, Ohio, the daughter of Otto L. and Bertha M. (Funk) Strait. She married Carmen R. Whitney in November of 1953 and he preceded her in death in January 1976. She then married Jack J. Jackson in March of 1977, and he survives. Jack and Evelyn spent the past 29 winters in their Fort Myers, Florida, home. In addition to her husband, Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Jill Costello and Linda McCarthy, both of Bryan; two stepsons, Terry Jackson, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Dick (Sara) Jackson, of Thornville, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Bonnie (Jeff) Howey, of New Haven, Indiana; two daughters-in-law, Candace Whitney, of Orlando, Florida, and Lindy Jackson, of Midland, Michigan; eleven grandchildren, Beth Bergeron, Codie, Taylor and Preston McCarthy, Kristina and Kadie Costello, Michelle Garner, Lori (Jeff) Thompson, Michael (Garritt) Boele, Matthew (Kim) Lamneck and John Lamneck; ten stepgrandchildren, Matthew Winicker, Gina Herald, Paul Jackson, Jonathan and Laura Howey, Tom Jackson, Julie Jackson, Steve, Terry and Kevin Jackson; five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Josh Boele, Vanessa Thompson, Max and Meredith Garner; and one brother, Harold (Inga) Strait, of Ney, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Carmen Whitney, a son, Michael G. Whitney, a stepson, Dr. Larry Jackson, a brother, Denver L. Strait, and a sister, Marjorie M. Strait. Visitation for Evelyn Emma Whitney-Jackson will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2006, in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan. Private funeral services and interment with Pastor Susan Roads officiating will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2006. A memorial reception will be held for family and friends, beginning at noon in the Faith United Methodist Church, Bryan, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorials be made to the Williams County Humane Society in honor of her cat, Duffy, and her dog, Tiff.
