View Video Tribute Charles J. Dunkle, age 83, of Edgerton, Ohio, died at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2006, shortly after admittance to Community Hospitals and Wellness Center in Bryan, Ohio. He was a 1943 graduate of Edgerton High School and a United States Navy veteran, serving in World War II. Mr. Dunkle was employed by the New York Central Railroad, then the Penn-Central Railroad and the Hillsdale Railroad in Hillsdale, Michigan. He retired with thirty-seven years of service with the railroad. He was a member of the Edgerton United Methodist Church, Edgerton Masonic Lodge #357, John D. Smith Post #10 of the Edgerton American Legion, where he was a past Commander, and Eagles Lodge Aerie #2233, of Bryan, Ohio. He was active with the Edgerton Boy Scouts and was an avid fisherman, fan of the Edgerton Bulldogs, Ohio State, the Detroit Tigers and Lions. Charles J. Dunkle was born March 29, 1922, in DeKalb County, Indiana, the son of Coy and Bina (Walburn) Dunkle. He married Dorothy L. Krill on March 8, 1947, and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cheryl VanCoppenolle, of Bryan, Ohio, and Robyn Higginbotham, of Irving, Texas, five sons, Jim (Nha) Dunkle, of Azuza, California, Rick (Marilyn) Dunkle, of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Bruce Dunkle, of Mumfordville, Kentucky, Brian (Kathy) Dunkle, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Jeff (Mindy) Dunkle, of Duarte, California. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, a sister, Kathryn Ford, of Hamilton, Indiana, a brother, Bob Dunkle, of Edgerton, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Darrel Dunkle. Services for Charles J. Dunkle will be Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, with Pastor Tim Gleason officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Edgerton with grave side military rites conducted by John D. Smith Post #10 of the American Legion. Visitation will be in the Krill Funeral Home, Edgerton, Ohio, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, February 6. Memorials in the name of Charles J. Dunkle may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
