Charles W. "Pogo" Dierks, age 89, of Bryan, Ohio, died at 9:10 P.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Bryan Care and Rehabilitation Center, Bryan, where he was a resident. Mr. Dierks was a member of Bryan VFW Post #2489. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in North Africa and Italy during WWII. Charles W. Dierks was born on August 29, 1920, in Bryan, Ohio, the son of Russell and Mabel (Haughn) Dierks. He married Olivia “Maxine” Mikesell on September 23, 1942, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on December 30, 1998. Mr. Dierks is survived by one son, Todd W. (JoAnn Luce) Dierks, of Bryan, one daughter, Kathi (Andrew) Dierks-Rancer, of Stow, Ohio, two grandchildren, Aimee Rancer, also of Stow, and Christopher Dierks, of Chicago, Illinois, and a sister, Jeanne Kuhn, of Defiance, Ohio. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Randolph, a daughter-in-law, Kayta Mansfield Dierks, and a brother, Edmund Dierks. Services for Charles W. Dierks will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, Ohio, with Pastor Dean Phillips officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Shiffler Cemetery, near Bryan. Memorials in the name of Charles W. Dierks may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospital Hospice & Home Health.
